State Tournaments, another success

Harrison Parks and Recreation hosted 64 teams for state high school baseball, softball, and soccer tournaments on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, May 9-11.

The three-day tournament also included two nationally ranked teams, one in softball and one in baseball, who are going to the finals.

Parks Director Chuck Eddington said, “We appreciate the volunteers from First Community Bank,  Arvest Bank, and the Kiwanis Club. The bankers operated the concession stands, and some Kiwanians used golf carts to offer rides to those who needed one.

“It will be a few months before we have the economic impact numbers from restaurants and hotels. We know the hotels were maxed out; hopefully, all the restaurants were busy, too. That’s why we do this. We bring in teams for tournaments, which showcases our facilities and adds revenue to our businesses.”

Parks and Rec would love to have more volunteers for tournaments. If a business or individual is interested, call the Youth Center at 870-741-2149.
