Some of the Public Works guys are still cleaning out the storm drain that flows into Crooked Creek. Colton Ramsey said he thought they had taken out at least 40 dump truck loads of gravel and trees that washed into the drain during the recent heavy rains. Ashley Harness was operating the wheeled skid steer and said they had cleared the drain as far as South Cherry St.

History on wheels The Arkansas Military Vehicle Preservation Association is in the area Friday and Saturday, May 16-17. Arkansas Club President Jerome Casey said, “We call ourselves the Arkansas Travelers. We are affiliated with the International MVPA. We aren’t headquartered anywhere because we have members all over the state. We do a couple of events every year.” Casey said, “We call this one the Red Ball. This takes the name from the Red Ball Convoy of WW2, where they supplied troops with a non-stop circuitous route to bring them supplies.” “This route today started in honor of that. The only requirement is to have a military vehicle and it to be reasonably represented. We accept vehicles in the convoy of any nation. We’ve had German vehicles.” This year, the group went to Jasper and Ponca and drove the Jasper Disaster Route. We expect to be back in Harrison around 3 or 3:30. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., we will have a static display at Camp Jack.” The General Public is welcome.”Our goal is to have a living history where people can touch, see, and feel it. For the most part, all these guys have restored all the vehicles. Ninety percent of these men have done 100% of the work. They enjoy relaying history and teaching people what the vehicle did for the military. Relaying that knowledge is our mission.” Casey and his wife, Marsha, the club secretary, were excited to be in Harrison and let the public see these historic vehicles.

Pine Street DG Market to open next week Dollar General Market Store Manager, Shayne Smith, met with Mayor Jackson and said they are so excited to be opening soon. “Hopefully, we will open on Monday, May 19, at 8 a.m. or at least by Tuesday. I have a great crew working this store, and right now, we are loading our frozen foods into the freezers and getting everything ready to open.” Starting hours will be 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., but Smith hopes she can eventually open at 7 a.m. “There are a lot of people we can serve in this community earlier in the morning. But we have to wait and see. I have looked forward to this ever since it was announced. Now that we are past the original delay, I’m very excited. We have a nice, friendly team, and we are the right people to be here. It’s going to look even better when we are all finished loading the shelves and freezers.” Jackson said, “This is the best-looking Dollar General anywhere. Thank DG and Harrison Planning Commission.” Photos: Dollar General Market Store Manager, Shayne Smith (left) Mayor Jerry Jackson and Regional Manager Rachel Andrews are all very excited to open the new Pine Street Location.
