The Harrison City Council met on Thursday, May 22, and heard a report from Chief of Police, Chris Graddy.
Graddy shared the story of an interesting pursuit the officers assisted with. The Sheriff’s department reported that they were in pursuit. At the same time, a citizen reported that a car was driving poorly and appeared to be driven by a child. The vehicle stopped at the corner of Bypass and Prospect and started moving again, so our officers pinned it in. It was an eight-year-old driver driving 85 mph on the Bypass with his six-year-old brother in the car. He had driven from Pyatt.
“It could have ended completely differently. Marion County is following up with charges for the parents leaving them unsupervised,” Graddy said.
“Our warnings and citations are still about 20% lower than in the past, and I think that is due to our lower manpower at this time. But we are working on that. Since we met two weeks ago, we’ve had a busy time with training. We hosted a meeting at Creekside for area agencies with a special agent from Homeland Security who reported on immigration and what the new administration was expecting. This clarified where we all stand and what their intent is. I think it benefited our officers who work with them.”
“This week has been busy with school out. Our SRO will be used at Creekside this summer. We recently certified our officers in TVI training at the airport. (Tactical Vehicle Intervention.) This was the first time that we had one of our officers teaching. He is certified and trained in Little Rock. He has the State Police Track reserved in July. Our officers will spend some time at the Camp Robinson facility and have additional training there,” Graddy said.
