Historic District Commission meetsThe Historic District Commission met on Monday, Aug. 4. Chairman Pat Brown mentioned the Destination Downtown Conference, which will be held Sept. 10-12 in Eldorado, and invited the members. Main Street Arkansas said, “The Historic Destination Downtown is the South’s premier downtown revitalization conference and is presented by Main Street Arkansas, Louisiana Main Street, and the Mississippi Main Street Associations.”

COO/Engineer Wade Phillips told the group that Eldorado has a strong historic district. Eldorado was also a recipient of the Great American Main Street Award. Several of the Main Street Board of Directors are planning to attend.

Phillips mentioned the Window Olympics, which will be held between Oct. 27 and Nov. 7. A group of out-of-state professionals will teach interested individuals how to restore the historic windows on many downtown properties. The group is still fine-tuning a local ordinance to allow the commission to protect and preserve buildings in the historic district.

The Commissioners are gathering information to update the list of historic properties in the downtown area and note structures that no longer contribute to the district or have been removed.
