Gwen Hoffmann City Council woman

The City Council met on Thursday, Aug. 14, and under Council member comments, Councilwoman Gwen Hoffmann said, “I am so proud to be a part of this community. The great things happening are not by accident. It started with Believe Boone County, probably 10 years ago. The County, the City, and the Chamber began coming together, building bridges and working together, and now we are seeing items being checked off the list.”

Mayor Jerry Jackson agreed and added, “And we are getting rid of those silos.”

Councilman Larry Phillips announced a Perpetual Care Cemetery Board meeting for 1 p.m. on Aug. 21.

Also, during the meeting, Jackson mentioned that David Wilson had some new software that showed that last year, 45,000 people left Harrison and Boone County to go to TJMaxx in Branson, Missouri.

He also mentioned the 80s music free concert to be held on Saturday, Oct. 4. “The M80s have been voted the No. 1 Tribute Band in the Kansas City area. The concert is free, and we encourage the public to dress in their favorite 1980s clothing. We hope to do more free concerts like this for the community. They bring their lights and sound, and they are not very expensive. We will have food trucks and beer. Gates will open at 5 p.m. and the show is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.”

In case of severe weather, the concert will be moved indoors to the Creekside Community Center.
