Little Rock - Five Arkansas cities have joined Main Street Arkansas, a statewide downtown revitalization network. Communities are chosen to join Main Street Arkansas through a competitive application process. In May, the cities of Glenwood, Cave City, DeQueen, Leachville, and Harrison were chosen.
“I am excited that we are accepting new cities into the Main Street Arkansas program. This program has been around since 1984 and continues to bring in new communities from all over the state,” said Scott Kaufman, director of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program. “Our Main Street cities continually see growth in various new businesses and public improvement projects. I look forward to following the successes of our newest cities as they organize to improve their downtowns.”
Main Street Arkansas, a program within the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, works to strengthen and preserve historic downtowns and Main Street districts across the state. It provides technical assistance, resources, and ongoing education to local programs to help them implement and excel in the Main Street Four-Point ApproachTM, creating a vivid and vital sense of place.
