“My family history is originally from Wyoming, and I have spent, combined, about 15 years in Wyoming. However, my parents were very nomadic when I was growing up, and I’ve had the opportunity to live in different parts of the country. I’ve lived in Washington State, Wyoming, Kansas, and Pennsylvania for extended periods of time in each state."
His parents moved to the Lead Hill area about 10 years ago, and he was thrilled to apply for the Harrison job because it would allow him to be closer to family again.
“Professionally, I’ve worked with aquatics for more than 10 years, but have been involved in aquatics for over 15 years, and have always enjoyed the work. I look forward to applying that knowledge and experience to the City of Harrison.”
He has recently been restoring a 90-year-old pool at the location where he worked as a teenage lifeguard. He also assisted a YMCA project to make a three-year-old pool much safer.
“I was glad to come to Harrison and walk around the Creekside facility, specifically the aquatics area. I admit to being excited when I saw the pump room at the Aquatics Center. I’m mechanically inclined and have discovered that each pump room has its own personality and differences. I’m familiar with saltwater pools, chlorine pools, and indoor and outdoor pools. But I’ve never worked with a pool with an open-air retractable roof. I’m excited about that neat feature and having that unique component to work with.”
He recently completed a two-year home remodel project, taking a 100-year-old home down to studs and rebuilding it himself, finishing the trim the last couple of weeks to prepare it for sale. Now, he’s ready to pack the boxes, load the truck, and head to Harrison the last week of September. His first day on the job will be Oct. 6.
The position became open when long-time staff member Libby Salmon retired last Spring. This summer, the local Swim Team Coach, Jennifer Feighert, filled in until an experienced person could be found.
Parks Executive Director Chuck Eddington said, “We are excited for Kyle to join our parks team as the Aquatics Director. We look forward to using his knowledge and experience to help us grow at our aquatics facility. Kyle will be a great addition.”
