Need a scooter?

There’s a new sign at the Creekside Community Center. Some individuals coming to Creekside need assistance getting into the building from the handicap parking area and up the ramp to the facility.

A motorized scooter has been donated to Creekside for this purpose. A new sign has been placed letting the public know if they need assistance, they can call. The scooter will be brought to their car for their use when entering and exiting the building.

A Creekside member emailed Mayor Jackson about the idea, and he was all for it. She said, “It’s just difficult for many people to get up those stairs and sometimes even the ramp to the side is painful for them to navigate.”

“I spoke with several who use the therapy pool, and that really helps them, but struggling with the steps sort of cancels out the good they receive from the pools,” she said.

“When I first began coming, I was just floating instead of swimming the laps I wanted to do. I could only go a couple of strokes. Now, I lap swim a quarter of a mile every other day. I feel so much better and am very grateful for the aquatics center. I hope people will take advantage of the electric scooter to help them get in and out of the building to get the benefits of the pools.”

Parks and Recreation Executive Director Chuck Eddington said, “If we can help, we are here to help. Anytime we can make an adjustment to help members get into our facility, we want to do that.”
