The City Advertising Tourist Promotion Commission (CATPC) met Thursday morning for the regular monthly meeting before going into their retreat-planning session to plan for 2026.
Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Jeff Nielsen updated the commissioners on the activity at the Chamber. “We’ve had more ribbon cuttings and new businesses joining the Chamber than ever. Lloyd and the ambassadors are busy – which is great for the Chamber.”
“We are very close to completing the negotiations with Provalus and excited about that happening,” Nielsen said.

Parks and Rec executive director, Chuck Eddington, is very excited to bring youth wrestling teams to Harrison. “We will host this first event with them on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. We are looking forward to this relationship and being able to host other events for them, too.”
Eddington reported on the events already scheduled at Creekside for 2026. “We have a bow-shoot planned with the Valley Springs School District in January. It will be a state-qualifying event, and we could have 1,200 students participating on January 17-18. This is in conjunction with the Arkansas Game and Fish helping us with a big buck contest, classes, and guest speakers. Several businesses will be participating in the Outdoor Expo at Creekside.”
In February Creekside is hosting the “What a Girl Wants Expo” in February. The organizer said she already has more booths signed up than she did last year.
Our basketball tournaments are scheduled, and we could have anywhere from 50 to 150 teams. The new contact we are working with has a good reputation and has never had a tournament with fewer than 50 teams, so we are excited about this connection.
Eddington said, “I'm going to Little Rock next week. We’ve made it to the second level of the matching grant that would put a splash pad and an all-inclusive playground at the Equity Bank Baseball and Softball Sports Complex. This would be a $500,000 project. We’d pay $250,000 or do in-kind labor to match that. We’ve reached the next level, so that’s good news.”
Creekside Membership has reached more than 5,100 members. On Friday night, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., members will have an anniversary/birthday bash/Fall Festival. “This is our way of saying thank you to the community for their support and participation.”
