Jerry Jackson

After much reflection, prayer, and conversation with my family, I have decided not to seek re-election as Mayor. This was not a decision made lightly. While my primary focus between now and the March 3 primary election will be reminding Harrison voters to approve the continuation of the two taxes, while keeping Harrison City's sales tax among the lowest in cities of similar size and population.

I see no reason to delay sharing my decision. Making it public now will give others ample time to consider their own plans and make announcements if they choose.

Serving as your mayor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I have done my best to approach this office the way I believe our community expects its leaders to serve — by showing up, listening, working hard, and keeping the long-term good of our community at the center of every decision. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and I am deeply grateful to you for entrusting me with this responsibility.

Public service also requires sacrifices that are often unseen. Although I still have the energy and desire to continue serving, my daughter Missy would prefer that I not, and I am certain that if my wife Peggy were still with us, she would agree.

I remain fully committed to completing the eighth year of my term with the same energy, enthusiasm, professionalism, and dedication you have come to expect. There is still much work to do, and I intend to finish strong.

I believe 2026 will be one of the best years our city has ever seen. The opening of the Main Street Bridge, the celebration of our 150th anniversary, the addition of TJ Maxx and other retail businesses, the reopening of Dollar General Downtown, and Provalus coming to the Square are all indicators of a bright future for our community.

As your mayor, Downtown revitalization has been a major focus, for me and our progress is visible. Through the efforts of Main Street Harrison, the Historic District Commission, and many dedicated partners, we have seen renewed energy downtown. Improvements such as enhanced lighting, music, community events, development as the Hole in the Square, as a public gathering place and the use of historic tax credits have helped preserve our history while creating momentum for future growth. These efforts are bringing people back downtown and laying the foundation for long-term success.

Creekside Community Center continues to offer an ambitious schedule and will remain a major attraction for visitors, while also enhancing the quality of life for our local citizens. The Highway 65 Bypass widening project is expected to begin. We are hopeful that Phase One of the Creekside Trail along Dry Jordan Creek will be underway, if not completed.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to our City Council, city employees, department heads, first responders, volunteers, and community leaders. You serve this city with heart, and it has been an honor to work alongside you. To the citizens of Harrison, thank you for your support and for the accountability that makes public service meaningful.

Our city is strong, and I believe our best days are ahead. I will continue to support the future of this community in every way I can. Thank you for the honor of serving as your Mayor.
