Splash Pad

The Harrison Parks and Recreation team wanted to expand and improve the park at the Equity Bank Sports Complex for neighborhood kids and families of players who play baseball and softball there.

Executive Director Chuck Eddington submitted a grant proposal for the $500,000 project. The state granted $150,000 in matching funds provided by the City.

“We were very thankful to receive a portion of our request, but also knew we would have to cut back on our plans to stay within that budget,” Eddington said.

The original plans called for an all-inclusive park and a splash pad. The downtown splash pad and park have been so well received that the City wanted to expand these amenities to another area of the community.

At the Monday, Feb. 16, Kiwanis meeting, chairman Dr. Kyle Mallett announced that the decision had been made to raise funds to partner with the City to provide the park and splash pad as originally designed.

The Kiwanis Club decided to raise $100,000 to fund the full project. Part of the City’s portion will be an in-kind match to stretch funds. Eddington said some public works and parks maintenance crews would assist with the physical labor.

Work will begin on the project as soon as the 2026 baseball and softball season has been completed at the Complex.
