It was a dark day when I learned that Pace Industries would be closing its Harrison facility on April 26, 2026. Like you, my first response was to consider the impact the closing will have on the 178 loyal, long-time Pace employees and their families.
For more than 55 years, Pace Industries has been a cornerstone of Harrison and Boone County. When I moved here 46 years ago, Pace was one of the major employers not only for Harrison citizens, but for the people of Boone and even neighboring counties. Folks would drive in every day for the opportunity to work hard and provide for their families.
Thousands of men and women have worked at Pace over the decades. They built more than products; they built homes, raised families, supported churches, volunteered in our schools, and strengthened the very foundation of our community. The economic impact of Pace Industries on Harrison is immeasurable.
It is especially difficult knowing that 178 families will be directly affected by this closing. These are hardworking people who have depended on their income from Pace. They are our friends, neighbors, and family members. Their uncertainty weighs heavily on all of us.
But while it was a dark day when we received the news, the very next morning, I woke up feeling encouraged.
A group of community leaders met with me in our conference room this week to discuss how to help these families. Joining us was Michelle Brown, the Pace HR Director.
I was impressed with the information shared and the willingness to assist in various ways. There are real opportunities and avenues available for personal and financial growth despite the initial shock from losing their jobs.
We already had a job fair scheduled at North Arkansas College on March 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. That event will now take on even greater importance, and we expect participation to grow as employers step up to meet this need. Businesses across our region are actively looking for hardworking employees. Many employers have already expressed their willingness to hire.
So, my message to you, Pace Employees, is you are not alone, and I am definitely encouraged.
Encouraged because of the resilience of our people.
Encouraged because Harrison is not standing still.
Encouraged because opportunity is growing.
With our partners at the Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce, we have been in communication with state leaders and economic development partners. Companies are looking at Harrison. We are making sure they know about our skilled workforce. I am confident that new opportunities will steer our way. Other industries have reached out wanting to help, and that speaks volumes about the reputation of our workforce and our community.
I truly believe that going forward, many of these families will find opportunities that may be even stronger than what they have today. Harrison is experiencing growth and momentum. There will be more job opportunities for hardworking people.
What defines Harrison is not a single company, but the character of our people. When challenges arise, this community comes together. Employers are stepping up. Leaders are collaborating. Neighbors are encouraging one another.
We are grateful for Pace Industries and its contributions to our community for over half a century. We are praying for the families affected. And we are moving forward together.
The future of Harrison remains bright.
Mayor Jerry Jackson
