Mayor Jackson, County Judge Mitchell Archer, and Judge Elect Tyler Gentry signed a joint proclamation at the Lions Club on Wednesday, April 29, to commemorate National Fentanyl Awareness Day.
The proclamation stated that fentanyl is involved in more deaths of Americans under 50 than any other cause of death, including heart disease, cancer, homicide, suicide and other accidents.
Kyle Evatt and Courtney Roberts represented NAPHE at NWAEDD for the proclamation.
Mayor Jackson also thanked the Lions Club for their partnership and donation of $35,000 for the downtown “Pocket Park” or also known as the “Hole in the Wall.” The space between the former Walter’s Building and the new restaurant that is opening soon, will be shared with Provalus. The front area facing downtown will feature tables and chairs for gathering with friends, large decorative rocks, activities, plus a mural depicting the history of Harrison and more. A restroom will also be available and maintained by the Parks Department.
“This will be a space we can be proud of and we hope all citizens and visitors will enjoy the area and return many times,” Mayor Jackson said. “We are excited to open the Lion’s Den this summer.”
