Branson, Missouri, opened its doors and hearts to honor those from across the country who serve communities in law enforcement. The thirteenth annual National Law Enforcement Week was held June 13-21.
The mission statement is “To become the nation’s leader in law enforcement recognition by paying tribute to America’s Hometown Heroes in providing a weeklong series of events and special offers that honor active and retired law enforcement officers and their families in Branson, Missouri.”
The week began with a special church service at Sanctuary of Hope, pastored by former trooper Dr. Sam Kaunley. He served as a Sergeant and Public Information Officer for the Missouri State Highway Patrol before transitioning fully into ministry. The service also paid tribute to the fallen officers of Christian County, honoring their sacrifice.
On Monday, the Harrison Police Department golf team won the “Law on the Links” Golf Tournament held at Thousand Hills Golf Course, finishing first at 17 under par. Team members were HPD Sergeant Matt Odom, Retired Boone County Lieutenant Kenny Deyoung, Mayor Jerry Jackson and Robert Campbell.

Officers and their families were invited to Silver Dollar City on Tuesday, where 2 separate K9 demonstrations were conducted. Corporal Noah Bailey and his K9 partner Elvis were part of a multi-agency demonstration. Several different agencies conducted demonstrations of narcotic odor detection and suspect apprehension.
Thursday evening, a parade of law enforcement vehicles lit up Branson Landing. The participants in the light parade included both active and retired officers driving police units ranging from current models to antiques. The night was capped off by an amazing drone show over Lake Taneycomo.
Friday evening, a dinner cruise and show on Silver Dollar City’s Showboat Branson Belle was held for law enforcement officers and their families. The evening included a beautiful sunset cruise on Table Rock Lake. Harrison Police Sergeant Ryan Godfrey participated as part of a multi-agency honor guard to open the ceremonies. During the cruise, Arkansas State Police Corporal Aaron Middleton of CID Company E, headquartered in Harrison, was awarded the Officer of the Year award for his work in narcotics enforcement.
Chief Chris Graddy, a member of the National Law Enforcement Week Executive Committee, stated this started 13 years ago to offer officers and their families an affordable week of rest and relaxation away from the job. Officers and their families come from all over the US to spend a week in Branson. The city opens its arms with discounts and performances to honor law enforcement. It’s very nice to see the profession being honored.”
