Mayor Jerry Jackson, COO/Engineer Wade Phillips, and Contractor Josh Thomason speak about the empty space located between Provalus and the new upscale restaurant Lemon and Rye on the East side of the Harrison Square.
Jackson said on Monday, July 6, “When acquiring the building for Provalus, we also received what some called the 'Hole in the Wall.” We realized we could share this with Provalus. They are taking the back 75 feet, and we are taking the front. We are going to convert that front space into a pocket park. We have looked at pocket parks all over the state, and they seem to be a great venue for historic downtowns. We think we can have one of the best. Thanks to the Lions Club’s $35,000 donation, we will be able to afford adding a restroom, which downtown desperately needs.
We have a special committee made up of volunteers, Erin Ramsey, Beth Crenshaw, Sherry Bishop, and Mike Nabors. Hopefully, the space will open in September.
The Lions Den, as it will be called, is located between Provalus and the new upscale restaurant Lemon and Rye.
Contractor Josh Thomason started removing the trees that had been in planters at the front of the empty space. His plan is to relocate the healthy, mature trees and start on additional work in the next couple of weeks.
