Don't forget this is City Clean-up week.
The Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting with Freedom Educational Services on Thursday, Oct. 9. Dr Christie Toland, President and Co-Founder of Freedom Education Services, and Dr Beth Shumate, CEO and Co-Founder of Freedom Education Services, presented the many services offered to families in public, private, charter, micro, and home school settings. Founded in October 2024, Freedom Education Services Inc. (FESI) is a non-profit organization that provides top-notch services to students, families, communities, and educational entities. With over 100 years of combined experience in education, the team of highly skilled professionals is committed to delivering outstanding results to those they serve.
The Public Works and Parks and Rec City employees took a defensive driving course Thursday morning at Creekside in the Arvest Bank meeting room. We want to keep everyone safe!
Today's featured firefighter is Donovan Armstrong. October is Fire Prevention Month, and each day, we learn a little about our firefighters and their favorite safety tips. This feature is thanks to Northark Intern Ashley Copeland.
Don't forget this week is the Fall Clean-Up. LRS will pick up approved items on the regular trash and recycle day for your area.
When I became Mayor, I saw a real need to communicate regularly with our citizens about what’s happening in our city. To accomplish that, we created this official City of Harrison Facebook page as a reliable source of information.
We also hired Public Relations Director Donna Braymer, who has done an outstanding job keeping both our residents and the broader community informed about city projects, events, and progress.
This page is not designed for debate, discussion, or public comments. It exists solely to share accurate information directly from your city government. Turning off comments has been reviewed and approved by both our local legal team and the Arkansas Municipal League.
Our Facebook page has now grown to nearly 18,000 followers, and we hope it continues to serve as a helpful and trusted source of information for everyone.

The Downtown Bridge is making great progress!
Great things are happening downtown. The Bennett Building is receiving a new roof as part of the restoration work after a fire several months ago. The courtyard trees have been trimmed, and dangerous limbs or trees have been removed. Thank you, Boone County! Some of the Downtown Strategies Committee members are getting ready to "flag" where the new 14-foot Norway Spruce will be planted in time for the Christmas Tree Lighting event at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6.
Can you believe it's October and the City's Public Works/Building and Grounds crews are still mowing!!! Thanks, guys.

line repair.

October is Fire Safety Month, and the City is highlighting one of the firefighters every day. Today, meet Xaiver Hickok and learn about his fire safety tip. Thank you to Northark Intern, Ashley Copeland, for preparing this feature.
Harrison Firefighters Donovan Armstrong and Michael Hannum spoke to the students at the Harrison Preschool today. The students learned the importance of each of the firefighters' tools, and what a firefighter in a mask will look and sound like during a fire. The students were encouraged to run to the firefighter and not be afraid if their house was on fire. The students were also encouraged to have a meeting place outside the home, so when firefighters arrive on scene, they know if someone is still inside or not.

It’s harder than ever to know what’s true anymore. Most of us turn to the internet for quick answers, but even that can be misleading, especially now that artificial intelligence allows almost anyone to create something that looks real, even when it isn’t.
Before you say something or forward a post, take a moment to think. If it doesn’t sound likely or if it seems exaggerated, check it first. False information spreads faster than truth, and it does real harm to good people and good communities.
Accuracy and truth still matter. Let’s all do our part to ensure that what we share helps, not hurts.

North Arkansas College Student Chapter of Turning Point USA is hosting an event and inviting the public to learn more about voting, civic responsibilities, and alternatives to violence. This student-led Turning Point USA chapter will ask for donations and offer the opportunity to register to vote. Congress has set aside Oct. 14 as National Charlie Kirk Day of Remembrance, the founder of Turning Point, USA.
